this song. I'd really love Jimmy Scott to record it someday. Meanwhile, I enjoy
very much Thelonious Monk's version (3d CD of the complete recording at
Riverside - track 1). Mary Stallings, Karrin Allyson and of course Ella sing it
beautifully. I'd love to find one Billie version too.
I think every woman knows how to interpret this song. Posted at 02:18 AM Read More Jeu. - Mai 1, 2003Spring Really Hang You Up The MostThis wonderful song is written by Thomas J. Wolf and Frances Landesman.
Mark Murphy doesn't sing it in its entirety but still I like his version better
than Ella's.
Sinon, voilĂ . C'est une chanson de saison. Posted at 10:11 PM Read More Lun. - Avril 28, 2003Ask Me NowI think the tune is from Monk. I don't know who wrote the lyrics (could
be Jon Henderson). I'm listening to Karrin Allyson singing it.
Posted at 06:59 PM Read More A Cottage For SaleWell... this is a sad song, for a change. I discovered it through an
Ernie Andrews version which is beautiful. I found many other vocal versions....
some just don't carry the meaning of the tune. But since I'm a nice person, I
won't tell you which singer did, imho, a bad job. Julie London did a good job
with it too. Music is by Willard Robison and lyrics by Larry Conley

this wonderful song on this page. I'm happy to share it with you. I
own a version by Shirley Horn and another one by Susannah McCorkle. I can
recommand both.

vocalist. Her name is Wesla Whithfield. It's nowhere as 'impressive' as Ella or
Sarah... but nowhere as boring as Diana Krall or Jane Monheit :-) She's a real
jazz singer. Listen to her "Just In Time" if you doubt. On that song, she starts
a cappella and the goes on with just the bass. Congratulations !
She sometimes sings a bit like in the musicals. (I wonder who's playing the sax on this song.... the solo is really nice. That's a downside of the emusic service, you don't always know who the musicians are) Anyway, here are the lyrics of this song by James Van Heusen and Sammy Cahn. it as a very young woman and.... well.... this song was talking to me :-) Sure
it still does, but not in the same way. I suggest you listen to the Sarah
version that appears in the 'compact jazz' series with Clifford Brown (that was
my very first Jazz CD if I'm not mistaken). The song is by Jimmy Davis / Ram
Ramirez / James Sherman.
Posted at 12:02 AM Read More Sam. - Avril 5, 2003Lush LifeA few days ago, I was kind of proud to be able to sing Sophisticated
Lady in tune, because the B part is kind of tough ! I hadn't seen anything !!!
Lush life is ***** hard to sing ! The (long) intro is okay, but in order to
manage the second part, one must have a pair of golden ears ! Anyway, here's
this Billy Strayhorn song. I suggest that you listen to the Ella + Joe Pass
version. It's marvelous !
Posted at 01:25 AM Read More Ven. - Avril 4, 2003Everything I LoveI just discovered this great ballad from Cole Porter (I think). I own 2
versions : one of vocalist Barbara Carroll and another by Joe Pass. Thanks to
Emusic ! The
best investment I did was to subscribe to their site :-)
Anyway, here are the promised lyrics. I couldn't find the lead sheet or even chords.... if anyone has it, drop me an email ! It would spare me a lot of time. Posted at 01:42 PM Read More Song lyricsI've been listening to a lot of great tunes lately and I'd like to
share. But.... I don't think the big record companies would like me to share all
the great tunes I like in .mp3 format. I still hope they'll allow me to post
lyrics. First song is "Bewitched". I'm not going to write the song in it's whole
since I'm not sure I'd like to sing all the verses. This is a song by Lorenz
Hart and Richard Rodgers. If you'd like to listen to it, look for Ella or
Sarah's versions, although Mel Torme's and Rosemary Clooney's are also worth an
ear.
